The 10th International Prosthetic Orthotics Congress, organized by the Turkish Prosthesis-Orthotics Science Association, was held at Hacettepe University Cultural Center in Ankara between 18-20 October 2018.
A total of 10 invited international speakers with important studies in the field took part in the congress, which was attended by approximately 1000 people, including doctors, physiotherapists, prosthesis-orthotics technicians/technicians, engineers, and related professional professionals, as well as students.
In the congress, many topics such as prosthetic orthosis training, prescribing in prostheses and orthoses, orthotic treatment approaches in common hand problems, multidisciplinary approaches in lower extremity amputations, eye prostheses, orthosis modifications for exercise, scoliosis exercises in orthotics, orthotics in hand rehabilitation. The place of Turkey in prosthetic-orthotics technology, postural orthoses in children with neurological problems, prosthetic orthotic approaches in animals, anti-fall orthoses in the elderly, the importance of using orthoses in the treatment of infants with developmental hip dysplasia, current surgical and physiotherapy approaches in flexor and extensor tendon injuries were discussed.
The sessions in which current technologies such as sports prostheses, C brace, myoelectrical controlled upper extremity prostheses, transfemoral socket systems, Allux polycentric microprocessor knee joint, brain-machine interface, and improvement of upper extremity functions in tetraplegias and amputees were shared, attracted interest.
Problems and solution suggestions in the field were discussed in the panel titled “Problems in the Field of Prosthetics-Orthotics and Studies for Solutions”, in which representatives of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, SGK, and associations took part.
Two workshops were held to develop professional practices. The workshops titled “Active/passive vacuum system that can be suspended without transfemoral knee brace: impression taking, model processing and application” and “In tall walking devices: impression taking, model processing and biomechanical principles” were successfully carried out.
In the congress; There were a total of 83 studies, 74 oral presentations, and nine posters, including the work of young researchers on prosthetic orthotic applications, biomechanical principles, and rehabilitation.
We believe that the 10th International Congress of Prosthetics and Orthotics brings together the rehabilitation team working in the field of prosthesis-orthotics, as well as its comprehensive scientific program, and strengthens social cohesion.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization of the congress, all valuable participants, and the companies that strenghtened our congress by opening stands.
Best Regards,
Prof. Dr. Fatih ERBAHÇECİ
